SMART is recruiting a project quality engineer for its Ottawa office. Reporting to the Manager, Quality, you will work with SMART’s operations and product development teams. You will work with project teams to assist in designing, developing and launching new products that meet stringent quality and reliability targets. You will also work with the project team to assess and select high quality suppliers as well as ensure the suppliers understand SMART product specifications.
Your responsibilities will include the following:
• Developing quality plans relating to internal and outsourced manufacturing, including strategies and metrics, to ensure the consistent quality and reliability of SMART products
• Working with the product development team to define appropriate quality plans and metrics during new product introduction
• Actively participating in SMART’s continuous improvement program by suggesting improvements, as well as leading continuous improvement initiatives
• Lead and coordinate the resolution to product quality concerns, including root cause analysis and coordination of rework
• Maintaining and improving systems for measuring and reporting on product quality performance
• Working within established SMART quality management systems, for example internal and supplier audits, corrective and preventive action, non-conforming material control, document control and others
• Approximately 10% - 20% of travel to other North American and international sites, will be required.
You have the following qualifications:
• University degree or technical diploma in engineering or a related field
• Professional CQE designation (from ASQ) or willingness to obtain the CQE designation
• 5 years experience working in the quality field, including the development of project quality plans
• Sound knowledge of statistics and be capable of providing detailed analysis of data
• Detail-oriented and thorough
• Sound decision making abilities
• Excellent team player
• Exemplary verbal and written communication skills
• Experience in ISO 9001 auditing would be considered an asset
• Experience with Lean and Six Sigma would be considered an asset
• A valid passport, or no impediment to obtaining one
